I was on duty at the Homerton hospital when I got into a conversation with one of my patients who had just had a baby. I confided in her that I had no child of my own. My son was born 25 weeks premature. He was in the hospital incubator for many months. One day the doctor called me from the hospital and wanted me to come immediately. When I got to the hospital they told me they were going to switch off the machines. For many years I had suffered pain in my tummy, and after so many check-ups nothing was found.
