CHOOSING YOUR BABY’S NAME

Choosing your baby's name will probably be one of the most important decisions any expectant parent can make. It is an exciting time, great things are happening in your life and a new baby is coming into your family. There is joy and excitement everywhere and I rejoice with you. Yet you must decide on a name for this new bundle of joy coming into your life. The following are a few tips that will help to get you started to find that perfect baby name.

  • Your child will live with the name for the rest of their life, so while unique names and spellings are very favourable, consider that the child could always have their name mispronounced or misspelled. This can be very frustrating for a child.
  • Consider names that are of ethnic origin. They don't even have to be your own ethnic origin. Ethnic names are beautiful and unique. In my own ethnic origin we have names like “Ikechukwu”: The power of God, “Akudo”: Wealth of Peace, “Chima”: My God Knows, “Ugonna”: My Fathers Glory, “Chika”: God is Great. My own name is “Akubia”: which means, My wealth has come. Such names bring good fortune into the life of such persons.
  • Choose a name based upon it's meaning. Sometimes the meaning of a name can steer you away from it, or draw you closer to it. Positive
